Chance York and Big Cats blast hip-hop heads with self-empowerment

Local hip-hop fans braved the cold last Friday night to catch emcee Chance York and producer Big Cats as they put on a release show for their new collaborative record Highest Self, which features York spitting affirmations of revolt and self-empowerment over deliciously woozy trap beats. With support from Greg Grease, DJ Just Nine, and Mixie, Chance and Cats delivered a fantastic night that closed out with a throwback rap dance party. Lydia Liza also jumped in to perform a brief acoustic set, and was joined by beau Josiah Lemanski for their reworked, pro-consent cover of "Baby It's Cold Outside." All photos by Scott Heins.
