West Bank Diner and Eat Street Pizza: Photo tours

1 of 19

West Bank Diner and Eat Street Pizza raise two unusual questions about food: 1) Is a diner a diner if it doesn't serve bacon?, and 2) Can you get good pizza from a coffeehouse? The answer to both is yes. The Somalian-run West Bank (324 Cedar Ave. S., Minneapolis) may not serve pork, but the warm and friendly restaurant does the basics well, including and affordable all-day breakfast with staples like eggs with wonderful hash browns and a stack of finely textured oatmeal pancakes. At Eat Street, a restaurant-within-a-restaurant at the Nicollet (1931 Nicollet Avenue, Minneapolis), the pizzas come with a signature crackling-thin made with four cups of local beer. The bacon cheeseburger and the zucchini with roasted red pepper were standouts. PHOTOS BY E. KATIE HOLM
