Smack Shack: The tour

1 of 26

Smack Shack is the latest and largest incarnation of Josh Thoma’s growing lobster roll kingdom, the bricks-and-mortar version of the popular food truck, with an expanded menu and full bar. The new space is massive and impressive, with custom-built tanks that can hold up to 400 live lobsters. The vibe is casual, and the lobster is present in everything from the decor to the guacamole to the mac and cheese. Thoma and executive chef Jason Schellin smartly offer less expensive, non-lobster items like chicken wings, po' boys, and tacos, plus fine-dining dinner options like cioppino and beef short ribs. But your best bets are still Smack Shack's greatest hits: the lobster boil and the famous lobster rolls. PHOTOS BY BENJAMIN CARTER GRIMES.
