After the Republican National Convention left the Twin Cities in 2008, the host committee still had a surplus of charitable donations left over. Though the bulk would go to charity, other individuals and companies have received payments years after the convention. Political experts who analyzed the expenditure documents for City Pages say the pattern of spending so long after the convention is unusual, and could be in violation of Federal Election law.
