1 of 10

Steve Neuharth for City Pages

1. What you will need: 8 whole star anise (or the equivalent in broken pieces), 2 T. whole pink peppercorns + enough for garnish (find pink peppercorns online, or locally at Penzeys), 3 cups water, 1 cup sugar, cup fresh thyme, ice, 4 cups chilled club soda.

This sparkling fresh drink has the perfect combination of sweetness, spice, and fresh green herbal scents. An ideal drink for warm days in the garden, on the bike, or just hanging out, here are step-by-step instructions shared by Green Zebra Restaurant in Chicago. Photos by Steve Neuharth.
