(L to R) Pi Bar employee, L. William Riley says queer when asked what one word reminds him of Pi. Asha thinks of William when she thinks of Pi, Jen Bergner thinks of dildos, and Frances Jarmick, who actually used to work at Pi, thinks of the word family.

The energy at Pi Bar on Friday was incredible--a celebration like no other, which made it even sadder that the reputed "lesbian bar" would close its doors after night's end. Pi has become a safe place for everyone that doesn't seem to fit in other places, a place for people to get along. Despite support that came flooding in from patrons and in the form of a fundraising campaign to save Pi, owner Tara Yule says its closing is inevitable. But she said she hopes the community forgets their differences and organizes for substantial change within the GLBT community as a whole. But on Friday night, it was time to party.
