Mona: The Tour

1 of 17

Chef Lisa Hanson has chosen a slightly unusual spot for her new chef-driven small-plates restaurant Mona--on the ground floor of Accenture Tower in downtown Minneapolis. But savvy diners should make an effort to find her. She has an impressive resume, having worked for ultra-high-end New York restaurants and here in Minneapolis as chef de cuisine at Corner Table, and it shows in her food. Hanson's menu is roughly two dozen small plates, with nothing above $13 and most in the $6 to $9 range. Some of our favorites were poached shrimp on brioche, bone marrow on sweet, toasted raisin bread, pancetta-wrapped halibut, and grilled pork tenderloin. It's not tapas, not bar food, not exactly global, and not 100 percent local--but all of it is worth a trip downtown. PHOTOS BY EMILY UTNE.
