La Alborada is one of our favorite specialty food stores. The venerable Corcoran neighborhood market has an amazing selection of baked goods from its panaderia: cakes, pan dulces, crusty buns, a pastry-and-custard specialty called nido, and a can't-miss creation called chocoflan, a hybrid of chocolate cake and flan. Among Minneapolis's Mexican groceries, La Alborada stands out for offering so much under one roof: great produce, a deli case, the bakery, uncommon cuts of meat, and a wonderful lunch counter that serves tacos al pastor and tortas.
