I Couldn't Live At Home

LaTonya, I Love a Parade

In this work, Minneapolis artist LaTonya symbolically rises in neon splendor above the gang graffiti, violence and poverty that have plagued her life. LaTonya works with I Love a Parade, a group offering alternative work opportunities for those who have been unable to maintain traditional employment, striving to reshape public perception of people who are chronically homeless.

I Couldn't Live at Home, an exhibit on homelessness created by the Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest's Sheltering Home Chronicles, is on display through Dec. 29 at the Minneapolis Public Library. These are some images from the exhibition -- some from renowned photographer Wing Young Huie, others from artists who have experienced homelessness.
