Art preview: Elizabeth Peyton's rock n' roll iconography coming to Walker

1 of 22

Matthew, 2008 - Oil on board 12-1/2 x 9 in. - Private collection - Matthew Barney, artist

The work of photographer and painter Elizabeth Peyton spans centuries: Earlier subjects include historical figures such as Napoleon and Marie Antoinette, while mid-career pieces romanticize budding icons like Kurt Cobain and Sid Vicious. Later works focus on friends and acquaintances (mostly established artists, designers, and filmmakers). Looking to make sense of it all? Curator Laura Hopton will give a free talk opening day 2 p.m. Saturday, February 14. The exhibit runs Feb. 14-June 14.
