Your Weekend Drinking Planned: Surly Beer Hall, Christmas Vacation, and more

Surly's Beer Hall opens today. Perhaps you heard about it? Of course you did. But there are other beer and brewery events about town, too, from movie screenings and dark beer celebrations to anniversaries and new brews.

Here are some of this weekend's top beer-related events.

Lift Bridge hosts an event at Cooks of Crocus Hill tonight titled "Stews and Lift Bridge Brews," running from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., plus live music by Andrew Spreck at their taproom.

On Saturday, Summit celebrates the holidays with a screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation -- with an ugly sweater contest, of course.

Sunday, you can celebrate "The Darkest Day of the Year" at Uptown Tavern, with tappings of 30 rare dark beers they've pulled out of their cellar for the event, which starts at 5 p.m.

Next week, post Christmas, Grumpy's NE will tap a firkin of Summit's 3X Mild Ale on December 26 and, that same day, Billy's on Grand will unleash a cognac-aged Herkulean Woods.

On January 3, Mankato Brewery will celebrate its third anniversary with live music and $4 pints.

In new beers and other odds and ends, Tin Whiskers has started to bottle its beers, which are available in select shops around the metro. Fulton is selling a rare hot sauce for the holiday season, a bourbon barrel-fermented hot sauce using Tangletown Gardens grown produce. It is available for purchase only in the taproom.

As for this weekend's pre-holiday food trucks, O'Cheeze (Friday) and Natedogs (Saturday) will be at Steel Toe's taproom, Gastrotruck (Friday) and Motley Crews (Saturday) will be at Bauhaus Brew Labs, and the Curious Goat is holding residency at Sociable Cider Werks.
