It's that time of year when love is in the air and we're blinded by the glare of red and pink hearts wherever we look. Yup, Cupid is back and Valentine's Day is right around the corner. If you're celebrating single-style this year, no big deal and no pressure. But if you're attached, you'd best be picking out the cheesiest Hallmark card, digging out your nicest tie or pair of heels, and hitting up the town for a delicious dinner for two.
If you've done all of the above and are still stumped about where to get your dine on, we're here to help. We've found five fabulous ways to celebrate the holiday of love.
This three-course meal is only $65 per couple, includes a champagne toast, and features options like a poached pear salad and bouillabaisse. For a little extra dough, pair the meal with a red or white wine of your choice. Don't leave the dinner empty-handed! Just next door, Fleur de Lis Fresh Flowers will create a custom bouquet for your sweetheart. Dinner starts promptly at 5 p.m. Friday, February 14. Call 651-222-6201 for reservations.
This fast-food restaurant, known for its cases of sliders, might not be your first choice for romantic dining. But White Castle has been in the romantic Valentine's Day dinner business for 21 years and has quite the following. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the dining room is transformed with tablecloths, balloons, and doilies, and reservations are required. The front counter is shut down, and diners get menus and full service from staff. Reservations are required though (really!) so call 651-646-1811, ext. 12.
For some, Valentine's Day might be hell, but at this Minneapolis restaurant you can spend the entire Valentine's weekend in hell. Activities start Friday, February 14, and continue through that Sunday and include three meals a day. Enjoy music with your dinner from Tim Patrick and Blue Eyes Band Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and lunch featuring vintage silent films on the huge screen. Best part? Lit candles everywhere. Hell's Kitchen "Gallery of Candles" is sure to keep your weekend romantic. Call 612-332-4700 for reservations.
Spill the Wine
The cozy Uptown restaurant has a prix-fixe menu from Thursday, February 13, to Saturday, February 15. At $100 per couple, or $55 per person, each five-course meal comes with a special wine pairing. The menu hasn't been made public yet, though with many reservations already booked for Friday dinner, it seems diners have full faith in what Spill the Wine's kitchen will come up with. Call 612-339-3388 to reserve your spot.
Aiming for super romantic? This one will do the trick. Luci Ancora is known for its romance 365 days a year, so imagine how much you'll please your sweetie when this charming spot bumps it up a few notches on Valentine's Day. The special menu features four courses, all with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and an optional wine flight. Blue cheese risotto and braised pork belly with moscato poached pears are just two of the choices you and your beau will have at $50 per person. Call 651-698-6889 for reservations.
