As a countdown to the Best of the Twin Cities 2013, coming April 17, the Hot Dish is serving up 50 of our favorite local dishes.

Plenty of dishes left a lasting impression when World Street Kitchen's brick-and-mortar shop opened in Uptown at the end of November. There's the massive burrito stuffed with saucy red Thai curry and chicken; the small but sumptuous tacos with charred squash, shitake mushrooms, and pumpkin seed salsa; and a fantastically fresh sake cocktail with carrot juice and ginger. But the one thing we found ourselves making a special trip for again and again was WSK's soft-serve ice cream sundaes.

It's hard to choose between the two house-made flavors of the creamy concoction, so we didn't. The first, the salted caramel (which has become ubiquitous in everything from mochas to cookies to cocktails), is really fabulous. It's got enough contrast between the sweet and salty flavors to stave off any possible palate fatigue, and the toppings of mini marshmallows, whole chocolate-covered smoked almonds, and chocolate-marshmallow creme sauce walk the line between grownup and juvenile just perfectly. 

Fans of fruitier desserts may prefer the passionfruit and mango version (pictured), which is inspired by the Indian yogurt-based lassi. For textural interest the subtly salty soft serve is finished with crispy puffed wild rice and tart apricot chutney.
