For those who survived the frigid Winter Beer Dabbler last week, a new weekend brings new beer events, headlined by two large parties on Friday, each in a different city.
In Minneapolis, Harriet Brewing is taking over the taps at the Cedar Cultural Center for their 3rd Anniversary Extravaganza. It's an evening of live bluegrass and lots of beer to celebrate the brewery's first three years. To mark both their own accomplishment and the 25th anniversary of the Cedar, they'll lead the events with Juhla Brü, a Finnish-style Sahti brewed with Red Cedar twigs, tips, and juniper. Elevator Doppelbock will also make its return. Both beers will be also available starting February 1 at the taproom, where anniversary celebrations will continue during the week.
Across the river, there's a bigger party taking place: the sold out 13th annual Winterfest at Union Depot. Over 40 breweries will be on hand serving up samples and special recipes, and Mayor Coleman may even make an appearance.
If a smaller gathering is more in tune with your weekend plans, Town Hall Lanes will be hosting a chili cook-off on Super Bowl Sunday, and $10 will buy a pint of Town Hall's beer and a variety of homemade chilis.
For those who want to make a trip and help a charity, Mankato Brewery is hosting a bean bag tournament for the Good Earth Nicollet County Humane Society on Saturday.
As for local food trucks, Motleys Crew Heavy Metal Grill is at Surly on Friday, and Tollefson's Chefs Table will be there on Saturday. The brewery is also changing tour times to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. going forward. Fulton Brewing will host Simply Steve's (Friday) and Kabomelette (Saturday). Indeed Brewing has Twisted Fork Grille (Friday) and Cajun 2 Geaux (Saturday).
