Weekend brew round-up: Rare Beer Fest, Brewer's Ball, Beer Bowl


After spending the winter cooped up studying beer, it's time to put your beer knowledge to the test this weekend with trivia, rare beer festivals, and more.

Friday night, Uptown brewpub Herkimer continues its Sweet 16 celebration with projector screens and extra televisions showing the annual college tournament. Meanwhile at TCF Stadium, there's the Brewer's Ball, a celebration featuring 25 local breweries, such as Bad Weather, Big Wood, Finnegans, and more all joining up to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis research.

On Saturday, St. Paul hosts the Northern Lights Rare Beer Fest, an event that showcases rare beers from 30 craft breweries around the country, 10 of which call Minnesota home. Head to the Minnesota History Center to try new concoctions and hard-to-find options from Surly, Lift Bridge, and many others. A portion of proceeds benefits Pints for Prostates.

On Sunday, Zeke's Unchained Animal will host Beer Bowl, a team trivia challenge on local beers. There are slots for 25 teams with a $20 entry fee and lots of prizes to be had.

As for food truck/taproom combos, check out Hibachi Daruma (Friday) and Little G's Mobile Pizza (Saturday) at Harriet, Butcher Salt (Friday) and Neato's (Saturday) at Summit, and Cajun 2 Geaux (Friday) and Hibachi Daruma (Saturday) at 612 Brew.
