Weekend brew round-up: Mankato Craft Beer Expo, new beers from Fulton, and more

While much of the state shut down this week because of the Polar Vortex, area brewers kept at it, and with a post-holiday weekend upon us, it's time to get back into the Minnesota beer business and get out on the town.
For those interested in getting out of the metro, Mankato is hosting the Mankato Craft Beer Expo on Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. It's the second annual event and will include 45 breweries giving out samples and participating in seminars. Along with Minnesota brewers like Summit, Surly, Bad Weather, Mantorville, and of course Mankato, there will also be out-of-state brews from Alaskan, Big Sky, Kona, Odell, and plenty more.

In other beer news, Schell's has announced new batches of Bock and Schmaltz Alt for the winter, and Mankato Brewery has unveiled a new beer in their Center Street Series, the Saffron Kilt Pale Ale, which uses the same malt found in Irish whiskeys.
On the food truck scene, Kabomelette (Friday) and Simply Steve's (Saturday) will be stationed at Harriet Brewing, while Gastrotruck (Friday) and Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill (Saturday) will dish out the goods at Surly over the weekend and Fulton's will host the Red Pig & Truffle (Friday) and Get Sauced (Saturday).
