The weekend forecast is looking terrific, food trucks are lining up at Surly's taproom now, and the season of the block party is in full bloom. Here's a handful of our best bets for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday beer-related festivities.
Top billing goes to Smack Shack's block party
and crayfish fest going on this Saturday. Starting at noon, a part of the street outside the restaurant will be blocked off for all-day live music and all-you-can-eat crayfish, potatoes, corn, spicy sausage, and coleslaw, as well as all-you-can-drink beer and classic hurricanes. Advance tickets are still available online
for $40 and some may be available at the door on the day of the event. In the meantime, bone up on your crayfish-eating skills.
Also starting at noon on Saturday just a stone's throw away from Smack Shack is Pizza Luce 10th annual block party at Pizza Luce downtown . They took a brief hiatus last year but they're back now, pouring a handful of beers from Summit and hosting live local bands, serving food from the grill, pizza by the slice, and providing some kid-friendly activities. Entry is free and you can find out more details about who is playing here .
Starting tonight and running all throughout the weekend is the annual Irish Fair at St. Paul's Harriet Island
. Finnegan's Irish Amber, Guinness, Harp Lager, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Cara Family Pubs, and Morrissey's Irish Pub are all sponsors, so you can expect great things, beer-wise. Specialty food vendors will also be onsite serving traditional favorites like fish and chips, bangers and mash, corned beef sandwiches, shepherd's pie, and something called "tipsy pies" that I would like to know more about. Tickets and more info available here.
Simply Steve's food truck will be rolling up to the Surly taproom
in Brooklyn Park tonight and Stanley's on Wheels will be there all day tomorrow. The taproom is currently pouring Cacao Bender, Overrated, the west coast style IPA, and the terrifyingly named Urine Trouble, which actually has a great story behind it
This weekend Harriet Brewing taproom
will be open on Sunday for the first time ever, hosting their Open Streets Party. Starting at 10:00 a.m. there will be lots of live music, West Side and Divine Oculust on tap (among others), and new this season sorta-fusion food truck Kabomelette will be serving omelets and all manner of kabobs from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
