The manager chooses five wines each day for the special.
It's summer, and the Hot Dish needs no excuse to head to the patio and watch the river roll by. Nonetheless, we stopped by Vic's to see if their wine-errific happy hour could make the afternoon even better.
Venue: Vic's is a summer mainstay on the riverfront and hosts tons of private functions. The views of skyline and water are fab, there's parking to be had (validated for the ramp), and they sell their wine at wholesale-like prices. Throw in a cheery waitstaff, decent food, a choice of patio tables low and high, and it's right-on for the warmer months.
Verdict: While this is strictly a wine-centric happy hour deal, it's still pretty impressive. Of course, they are not bringing out the Opus One for $2, but this is better than two-buck-Chuck and someone is serving it to you in front of some serious scenery. The manager generally picks out three whites, a rosé or white zin, and a red, often from The Bunny Hill section of Vic's wine list. But who knows? You just might hit up happy hour when they put the 2004 Grange-Penfolds Shiraz on the specials list (a highly unlikely scenario).
