DIY veggie sushi at the Wedge this week

It's technically April, but the weather hasn't cooperated enough to officially declare patio season open for business just yet (remember last year when we hit 81 degrees on April 1? Sigh.) Luckily there are plenty of food-related activities to distract you from the gray skies and grungy sidewalks, including the opening of Target Field and the many new mouthwatering concessions we've been thinking about all winter.


Monday 4/4 Sea Salt Eatery opened last weekend, which means this is the first time in 2011 when you can end your Monday with an order of panko fried walleye, po' boys or an ahi tuna steak burger. The popular outdoor spot will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until Memorial Day, when the closing time moves to 9 least until closing in October.

Tuesday 4/5 Apple Valley's Enjoy restaurant offers a relaxing Cigar Dinner complete with a free cocktail and cigar. The evening begins with a cigar reception on the heated patio and moves inside for a multicourse dinner (spring green salad, plenty of lamb, pork, and chicken, and an intense black-bottom butterscotch pie) paired with Jameson Irish whiskey, all for $55. Wednesday 4/6 Get over the hump with a trip to Triple Rock Social Club for Free Bacon Wednesday. Strips are free while they last from 9 to 11 p.m., and the perfect complement to bacon is obviously a $3 PBR tallboy. Indulge!

Thursday 4/7 Feeling guilty about loading up on all that free bacon yesterday? Then head to the Wedge to clear your conscience at a vegetarian sushi demo and tasting. Learn to make sushi rice, finger sushi, and all sorts of sushi rolls and balls at this hands-on (and dairy-free) class taught by Mike Stickel. 7-9 p.m., $10, $7 members. Friday 4/8 It's officially baseball season in the Twin Cities today, and if you're headed to the home opener at Target Field it's your first chance to sample some new concessions! They include Turkey to Go, Walk a Taco, Minneapple Pie, and two additional Kramarczuk's bratwurst dishes created exclusively for Target Field. Turkey to Go is a giant turkey sandwich popular at the State Fair, while Walk a Taco hails from St. Paul's El Burrito Mercado. The Minneapple pie is an individual handmade apple pie with Blue Bunny ice cream on top, and the Kramarczuk's additions include a smoked bratwurst with caraway sauerkraut and onions and a wild-rice bratwurst with pickled red cabbage and beer mustard. Beer drinkers will also appreciate the addition of Farm Girl Saison, a Belgian-influenced ale from Lift Bridge Brewery in Stillwater.
