Northeast Minneapolis will soon welcome another brewery, as Bauhaus Brew Labs is on track to open its doors in June. The new addition to the recently dubbed Brew District is planning "uniquely crafted, German-inspired beers with a focus on lagers."
Head brewer Matt Schwandt and family have an opening line-up of 4 beers in total: Wonderstuff Neü Bohemian Pilsner, Wagon Party West Cöast Style Lager, Stargrazer German Style Schwarzbier, and Sky-Five! Midwest Cöast IPA. The beers have a sessionable and traditional base but have been "given new life."

The Bauhaus line-up will be available on draft at the taproom, in select bars yet to be announced, and in 6-packs of 12-ounce cans. Why cans? "There are some really exciting design opportunities involved with cans that simply don't exist with bottles," Schwandt says. The Bauhaus Brew Labs design was created by Helms Workshop of Austin, Texas.
The brewery itself will have an active taproom. "On some nights that might take the form of live music," Schwandt says. "On others, it could be karaoke. We also plan to host movie nights, trivia, and other types of general awesomeness." Patio construction is underway, which will double the taproom's summertime capacity to nearly 300 seats from the already estimated 125 to 150 seats inside the brewery.
All dates are currently tentative as there is still much work to be done. "We are targeting early June, but do not have a firm date," says Communications and Marketing Director Mike Schwandt. "We are waiting on the last piece of the brew house to be delivered and the second that comes in, we'll start brewing!"
