Common Roots cookies will be on hand
The turkey is gone, there's snow all over the place, and the temperatures have dipped back down into the eyelash-freezing range. Fortunately, it's holiday cookie season, and this weekend, the restored Union Depot in St. Paul will host its inaugural bake sale.
The bake sale will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8. On hand to sell their sweet treats will be: Angel Food Bakery, Barkley's Bistro, Bars Bakery, Birchwood Café, the Buttered Tin, Comfort Candy, Common Roots, Cookie Cart, Foxy Falafel, Groundswell, Groveland Confections, Just Truffles, Petite Sweets, Rye Deli, St. Paul Classic Cookie Company, St. Croix Chocolate, Sun Street Breads, and the Warming House.
In addition to cookies, there will be vegan caramels, gluten-free options, and some very special treats for the pooch in your life. The Warming House will be on hand selling rich drinking chocolate and handcrafted marshmallows.
Throughout the day there will be baking demonstrations and holiday music, and after the cookies are put away on Saturday afternoon, Union Depot will host a special tree-lighting ceremony, complete with carolers and reindeer for photo opportunities.
Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for seniors and kids ages 6-12 ($12 for family of four). Attendees are advised to bring cash and, of course, a sweet tooth. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Share Our Strength, in an effort to combat childhood hunger.
