For the second time, Dinner on the Farm has paired with the West Broadway Coalition to kick off their annual FLOW Northside Arts Crawl with a fabulous feast. This year, Pimento Jamaican Kitchen will create a sumptuous Caribbean-inspired meal with ingredients sourced from West Broadway's own farmers market and serve it up on July 25 at the Mpls Photo Center.
Of course you recognize Dinner on the Farm, known for its community-style dining events that celebrate sustainable eating, but the guys from Pimento Jamaican Kitchen in Burnsville Center may be on your radar as well. Co-owners Tomme Beevas and Yoni Reinharz won an episode of the Food Network's Food Court Wars that aired last August. Along with head chef Serge Kogan (another co-owner), they'll be providing the appetizers and main course at the Underground Dinner which is part of FLOW's two day celebration of the Northside community and its artists.
While Pimento Jamaican Kitchen is in a food court, Chef Kogan is no pimply teenaged fry cook. He is French-trained and has worked at many area favorites such as Oddfellows and D'Amico Cucina. Meanwhile business partner Tomme Beevas learned to cook in his grandmother's kitchen in Jamaica. Yoni Reinharz, to round out this odd troika, has rapped with Matisyahu and loves all things jerk.
In addition to the fine fare from PJK, the night's festivities take place at the Mpls Photo Center, home to the hugely popular Vivian Maier exhibit. Guests will be able to take in some amazing photography while they nibble on Jamaican beef patties, bone-in jerk chicken, coconut rice and beans, Jamaican-style slaw (no mayo and a hint of mint), sweet fried plantains, and fruit salad.
Tickets are still available for the event, and will include wine pairings and a dessert called Three Little Birds (including a salted caramel ice cream and vanilla nutmeg glaze) to finish things up. This Underground Dinner sounds like it will really set the tone for FLOW, making Northside the place to be for any culturally-minded folk looking for good art and good food on July 25 and 26.
