Uber helps you beat the heat with ice cream delivery today

You don't have to kick it old school at the ice cream cart. There's an app for that.

We all know the sound of those colorful trucks meandering through neighborhoods, dulcet bells calling kids out of their yards with quarters in hand to chase down the only thing better than a sprinkler system on a summer day: ice cream.

On Friday, July 19, you won't have to wait for that familiar jingle to get your deliciously cold fix. In fact, thanks to Uber, you don't even have to leave the comfort of air conditioning to get ice cream delivered right to your door.

Today only from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., Uber will team up with ice cream trucks and deliver right to your door. Press a few buttons on your smart phone, wait a few minutes, and you've got a ton of ice cream to help fend off the humidity blues brought straight to you.

You'll have to sign up for Uber, but signing up is free and you'll get $20 off your first ride with the promotion code: "ICECREAM".

If you're already an Uber fanatic, you can just hit the app on your phone and select the "ice cream" option instead of asking for a car. For $25, they'll send along six pieces of ice cream, some company swag, and an awesome way to beat today's oppressive heat.

Uber recently launched services in the Twin Cities last year, but they've been around since 2010 and now operate in 10 different countries around the world with their tech-friendly, mobile app-based service. Today, all 33 cities Uber operates in will be dishing out sweets, from Amsterdam to Melbourne and everywhere in between.

This isn't the first time Uber has offered its users something extra. On election day in 2012, Uber offered free rides to the polls for voters around the Twin Cities.
