7/21 Eat ramen, help Japan. It's that simple. And no, we don't mean the tragic plastic packages you buy in bulk at Rainbow. Join a whole heap of local chefs at the Create Catering Dining Studios where each will prepare a signature ramen dish to be judged by a panel and eaten by you. Chefs from Masu and Moto-i go head to head with the likes of Russell Klein of Meritage and Jack Riebel of the Dakota. Tickets are $10 (can be purchased at the door or online) and guarantee one bowl of ramen, while additional ramen and beer/beverages can be purchased. Proceeds will benefit the food shelves of Second Harvest Japan. The showdown runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
7/23 Did this recent recipe in the New York Times remind you how delicious cherries are? Us too. Fortunately, it was well-timed because Mississippi Market is offering a Baking with Cherries class. Learn two new French recipes that are all about cherries: the galette and a clafoutis. Participants get to sample these during class with a cup of tea. 7/24 The second Dinner on the Farm of the season takes place on Dave's Brew Farm in Wilson, Wisconsin, and features chef Tyge Nelson from the Inn preparing the food. Diners can come in the afternoon and enjoy the farm, including the apple trees, the wind generator that makes the brewery on the farm possible, and of course a wind-brewed beer. The menu features roasted goat and rainbow trout as well as seasonal sides like sweet corn and heirloom tomatoes. Visitors are invited to hang out after dinner for live music and camping overnight.
