Twin Cities' farmers markets are ready for business
Green is on the horizon. The Minneapolis Farmers Market downtown opened today, with others to follow
It looks as if this is finally happening. Spring has fought through those epic snowbanks and is finally forcing its way back into our backyards. Farmers markets are making a comeback. One starts today, while others have had to push back their opening date for the first time ever. Here is a guide for you to find your nearest farmer's market.
Minneapolis Farmer's Market downtown Thursday market opens on Nicollet Mall starting today. Its Saturday market on Lyndale Avenue will open this weekend at 6 a.m. What we're lacking in growing season will be made up for in year-round favorites like meats, cheeses, honey, soap, flowers, and produce brought in from places that weren't so thoroughly punished by Old Man Winter. It also has artisans selling an assortment of non-food items. Surround yourself with friendly people and a bevy of free samples. From Saturday on, the market will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. www.mplsfarmersmarket.com
For the first time ever, the local-centric Lowertown St. Paul Farmers Market has had to push back its opening. This Saturday it will have one more winter market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The winter market includes some vendors, like Prairie Pride, Otis Family Farms and Bar 5 Farms, outside with fresh eggs, meat, bread, dog treats, plus others with honey, bread, and more. Inside Golden's Deli there is more to explore, with baked goods, salsas, pasta, and maple syrup, among other goodies. The market will be back next weekend with its summer hours, Saturday 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. www.stpaulfarmersmarket.com
