Tutti Frutti now serving frozen yogurt in Maple Grove
Frozen yogurt with self-serve toppings? Driving 25 miles to Maple Grove was certainly not out of the question for me to check out this phenomenon. Tutti Frutti has stores in several other states, but this seems to be the only store in the Twin Cities.
Here's what we found:
We walked into the retail location and took note of the '60s retro furniture. It was quite crowded--the building seats only 44, and we had to fight to find seats.
The walls were decorated with giant posters promoting the health benefits of frozen yogurt. Though frozen yogurt is lower in calories than ice cream and may be a healthier alternative, when we're looking for health food it's not usually in desserts layered with Ghirardelli chocolate sauce and rainbow sprinkles.
The self-serve frozen yogurt can be put in three sizes of containers, and you pay by the weight. Flavors of the day on our visit included many fruits (banana, papaya, melon, pomegranate, and orange), as well as red velvet, cake batter, tropical sorbet, and traditional vanilla and chocolate.
Toppings include Girl Scout cookies, various fruits, including grapes, and more traditional choices such as brownies, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips. The only thing we saw missing was whipped cream.
All the flavors and toppings we sampled were delicious. The cost was only 45 cents an ounce, so it's reasonably priced as well. Aside from the limited seating (due to large crowds), no complaints here.
Tutti Frutti is at 7781 Main Street North in Maple Grove. It is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
