True Thai head cook Anousone Phanthavong killed in hit-and-run accident
Various news media have been reporting that a 38-year old Roseville man was killed on the shoulder of I-94 at the Riverside Avenue ramp last night just after 11 p.m. His identity was confirmed as Anousone Phanthavong, the head cook at True Thai restaurant.
True Thai owner Anna Prasomphol Fieser expressed her sadness on her blog today, crediting much of her restaurant's success to Phanthavong, who was one of her first hires. He had been with the restaurant since November 2002, and was the restaurant's most senior employee.
"Over the years I became very close to Anousone. To me, he was the soul of True Thai, the one person I could always depend on to put quality first. Because he died so close to our restaurant, I know that his spirit will be watching over us just as he watched over our kitchen these last nine years."
State Patrol is looking for evidence to identify the driver who left the scene, who was believed to have been driving a 2007-2011 Mercedes, one of the ML 320, ML 350, ML 500, or ML 63 models. Anyone with information should contact the police.
