Trader Joe's coming to Lyn-Lake?
Two-Buck Chuck could be coming to Uptown
Trader Joe's is close to finalizing a deal for a store on the corner of 27th Street and Lyndale Avenue in Lyn-Lake, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
The bustling retailer originally considered opening a store in the Le Parisian building, across from Hum's Liquors, back in 2009--in violation of a state law prohibiting liquor stores in the Twin Cities to open within 2,000 feet of one another.
Developer Mark Dziuk worked to win an exemption to the law, which he received from the Minneapolis City Council. The new proposed location avoids that problem since it is not within 2,000 feet of a liquor store. Council Member Meg Tuthill told the Business Journal that the store is in the planning stages, but no formal proposal has yet been submitted to the city.
The California-based specialty grocer, known for carrying its own Trader Joe's brands and the cheap Charles Shaw wine known as Two-Buck Chuck, already has six Minnesota stores, in St. Paul, St. Louis Park, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Woodbury, and Rochester.
