Town Hall has been making award-winning beers for going on 18 years now, but if you think they're all hops and barley, you're sadly mistaken. Next week, Town Hall's fifth annual Cider Week offers a chance to learn otherwise.
True, the popular brewpub doesn't brew its own cider, but Town Hall sells other makers' products and is spotlighting the hard apple beverage all next week. From June 1-6, cider-lovers can join in on the festivities, from the Bicycle Cider Crawl that features several stops about town, to the Cider Fest tasting event, to a cider-making competition. Not much of a joiner? Just take advantage of the various cider discounts throughout the week.
It's a chance to explore a rapidly changing industry, where mass-produced sweet ciders of yore are giving way to dry and effervescent European styles and unique American craft concoctions.
"There has been an insane rise in the cider industry both with new companies and customer demand," says Town Hall's Shelly Larson. "During cider week our cider sales jumped four times our normal sales," she says, "but weeks later, they have always held higher sales. You can see on paper that people would try cider that week and continue to drink it after."
