Time to try a suckling pig this week in food
June is shaping up nicely both in weather and dining events -- we think you'll agree, especially if you're into suckling pigs.
6/6 Maybe you're not at your sharpest on Mondays, but that's no reason to stay in when King's Wine Bar offers 8:30 Trivia Mafia trivia! Order a plate of their famous crispy tater tots, a seasonal tap beer (or get frisky and try a 9 percent ABV Belgian import like Delirium Tremens) and try your hand at few quizzy questions. Game starts at 8:30.
6/8 Head to Senor Wong's for an all-cask four-course Rush River beer dinner. Yep, you read that right. Casks of Uber Alt, Nevermore Chocolate Oatmeal Stout with coffee, Lyndale Brown Ale infused with pomegranate green tea and Bubblejack IPA will be flowing, and guests can meet and greet Rush River's Nick Anderson and Dan Chang. Dinner will include ceviche, lamb sirloin, pork shoulder and chocolate "pudin" (their word, not ours). The event begins at 6 and runs $50 per person. For reservations call 651-224-2019
6/9 Fans of chef Jenny Breen's new book Cooking Up the Good Life won't want to miss this intimate cooking class at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in which Breen will make recipes from her book like chicken satay skewers, mushroom pate, asparagus with citrus-olive marinade, greens with miso dressing & toasted almonds, wild rice almond croquettes, chard and goat cheese tart and strawberry crisp. 6/10 Heavy Table and Peace Coffee host a night of sipping, sampling and sighing in the Longfellow neighborhood as attendees enjoy local brews, bakers, cheesemakers and tastemakers. Talk about local food (in between full mouths) at the Peace Coffee shop while meeting purveyors of delights like Crispin Cider, Sun Street Breads, Ames Farm honey and much more. Tickets are $12 and can be snagged online.
Solera and a suckling pig. What could be better?
6/12 Admit it: you've always wanted to attend a suckling pig dinner. Luckily, Solera is offering up the pig, spit and all, for a succulent bash on its second floor terrace. Green Ox Foods chef and charcuterie master Mike Phillips will act as guest chef, and brewers from Fulton Beer will be on hand to provide plenty of Sweet Child of Vine for whetting your palate. Throw in local blues guitarist Javier Matos, and you've got yourself the perfect suckling pig experience. The prix fixe family-style event is $65 per person, and reservations can be made by calling 612.338.0062.
