If you've been paying attention at all, by now you know we're hot on the heels of cities like Seattle and Chicago when it comes to our local dining scene. In a few short years, we've shot upward and onward, quickly and stratospherically, making national food pundits take note of what we're doing around here.
Each year, Bon Appétit magazine searches the country "high and low" to discover the new restaurants that separate themselves from all the others. They say the quality of the food is paramount, but they also consider every aspect of the eatery, from its commitment to service, to its lighting and design. The 50 restaurants on this list represent the best of the best in 2015.
And refreshingly, excitingly, Hola Arepa has made the list! I've been breathlessly extolling the many virtues of Christina Nguyen for the past year, since falling in deep, inextricable love with her brunch, with her cocktails, with her dessert, and naturally with her arepas. Pretty much anything the woman touches is best in show, and now she's got the street cred to prove it. Congratulations, chef!
Each of these restaurants will be prominently featured in the September restaurant issue of Bon Appetit.
