Faithful Hot Dish readers and serious Twin Cities cocktailers already know that the Six15 Room in the lobby level of the Grand Hotel has sophisticated stylings and drinks, but how is the hotel bar's happy hour?
Venue: The room is full of contemporary art, bold red furnishings, and luxe yet modern wood and white touches. There's a long bar and plenty of other seating, both in the lobby of the hotel and hidden behind a small partition. We love the emphasis on classic cocktails, as evidenced by a true daiquiri, a Sazerac with Pernod Absinthe, and a standard Manhattan on the top of the drink list. Also, the bartenders make an effort to introduce themselves and warmly chatted with our T-shirt and flip-flop-shod Hot Dish crew as well as the many suits in attendance.
Verdict: We do so love the word daily when it is paired with the phrase happy hour. And although seemingly unnecessary, the extra 15 minutes after 6 p.m. serves both as a branding device and a bit of extra time that's helpful when stopping for a sip after work. Enjoying the cocktail of the day for $6.15--an impeccable Pimm's Cup on our visit--is a great way to visit Six15 for a song and donate to Dress for Success, a worthy charity. Otherwise, there are scant other deals to speak of (taps are $1 off and house wine is $6.15), so after one, the Hot Dish recommends climbing off your sexy white bar stool and finding a cheaper venue. However, chef Kris Koch did tell us there is an ongoing Portage pizza (goat cheese, sausage, pickled ramps, and fried beets) and Summit pint special that will run you just $15 during June and into July. Sounds tasty.
P.S. The Grand Opening Party for The Six15 Room is on Wednesday.
