The Local sold the most whiskey worldwide in 2009

It's the fourth year in a row that the downtown Minneapolis Irish pub has poured the most Jameson Irish whiskey worldwide. This Thursday they will celebrate with inebriation.
We'll admit it; we're impressed that the Local has managed to outsell whiskey-loving pubs throughout Europe, including Ireland. But apparently the preppy business folk who frequent the pub love their liquor. This year the bar and restaurant managed to sell about 25 bottles of whiskey a day, totaling 775 cases for 2009. According to their official release, 75% of that whiskey was being poured into their signature drink, the Big Ginger (whiskey, ginger ale, and lime).
On Thursday, May 20, the Local will celebrate throughout the day with $4 Big Gingers and chicken shots. At 4:30 p.m. executives from the Irish Distillers Limited group in Dublin, Ireland will stop by to present a plaque and, presumably, enjoy a drink or two.
The Local is located at 931 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis. For more information, call 612.904.1000 or visit www.the-local.com.
