The Left Handed Cook coming soon to Midtown Global Market

Since La Sirena Gorda closed there's been a quiet, darkened pocket in the heart of the bustling Midtown Global Market. We've just learned that soon the lights will be on at a new, unique eatery with some serious cooking chops.

Joining the lineup of sandwiches, camel burgers, cupcakes, and tortas will be some comfort-food favorites: slow-braised short ribs, fall-apart pork, and many more, all served with a worldly twist.

The new stand, called the Left Handed Cook, will be owned and operated by Thomas Kim and Kat Melgaard. Kim is a chef who has worked in such hallowed kitchens as Nobu and Roy's in Los Angeles. Before that he lived and worked in San Francisco.

Melgaard's experience is on the service side, and as Kim joked, she'll be the face of the operation: "It's always better to hear everything from a pretty girl." It was Melgaard's ties to Minneapolis that brought them here. They were also looking for a community with less traffic, with an interesting food community.

The food plan is to make all comfort food, but with Korean and Japanese twists, like a pulled pork sandwich, but the pork will be dressed with a Hoisin barbecue sauce.

Paperwork is still being finalized, but the two are on track to open in about a month and a half.
