"[The original owner] believed in my plan to combine a bar with open bowling, and sold the place to me... even the people who invested money in the project thought it wouldn't work, and said I was nuts," says Bartmann. "It wasn't a great neighborhood at that point, and bowling wasn't popular. But it worked out."
