The Hanger Room's Blood of Christ: a bold craft cocktail in an out-of-town hideaway
The Hanger Room
310 Stillwater Road, Willernie
On a quaint main street in Willernie (pop. 523), bordering Mahtomedi, you will find this cozy new steakhouse. The Hanger Room is a lovely spot to have a sip--close to the cities, yet feeling like a secret hideaway. While the bar specializes in single-malt scotches, their craft cocktail list is also very fine. The barkeeps make their own tonics and bitters, as well as some really boss infusions--the potato/horseradish vodka spiced with sambal is especially nice. I was very happy with my choice of the Blood of Christ. This ruby-hued cocktail is very aromatic, full of botanicals, made with fresh beet and cucumber juices, gin, fennel, and coriander. Somehow, the beet juice does not overpower--this delicately balanced cocktail allows all these flavors to shine. With a drink menu that changes with the seasons, the Hanger Room is a choice addition to our budding craft cocktail scene.
