Craft beer haven the Four Firkins, currently operating a single 2,200-square foot store in St. Louis Park, has announced the location and details of their upcoming second location. If all goes according to plan, this second store, bordering Woodbury near Best Buy and Buffalo Wild Wings off the I-94 Radio Drive exit, should be up and running in September.
The new store will be similar in feel to the parent location, only slightly smaller at 1,500 square feet.
"There will be almost no difference. The smaller store won't have an 'Abbey Register,' as there's no room for one, but that's about it," says owner Jason Alvey. "Even the staff will rotate and do shifts at both stores."
He promises weekly beer tastings on Fridays and Saturdays and regular classes on brewing and beer history and styles.
The primary purpose of the second store is twofold: to provide fresh craft beer options for the east metro and to increase the parent company's reach in competition with corporate liquor stores. News first spread of this expansion via Indiegogo, a crowdfunding site used by The Four Firkins to establish funds to secure an SBA loan and purchase some of the initial inventory.
"Either we had to come up the down payment by inviting in a private investor and giving up ownership," says Alvey, "or we could try this new crowdsourcing method. Crowdsourcing platforms allow your friends and customers to be involved in the growth of the business. We were honored that so many of them chose to be a part of this project."
With construction set to begin immediately, Alvey hasn't had time to plan yet for the grand opening celebration, but the east side will soon have another option for high-quality craft beers.
