No good chef emerges from just nowhere at all. Sameh Wadi, in his excellent new cookbook The New Mediterranean Table, is quite vocal about crediting his parents with his passion for food.
But after them, there was another father of cuisine in Wadi's life, and that was Tim McKee. Wadi worked under McKee at Solera when he was just a young gun (even younger than he was when he opened Saffron at the geezerly age of 22), and that period of his life was importantly influential: "Tim is one of the only chefs in the Midwest that speaks this language, the language of eastern Mediterranean flavors. It's why I went to work for him [at Solera] more than a decade ago before starting my own restaurant." And now the two reconvene for a very special evening at La Belle Vie.
The five-course dinner with wine pairings will include dishes "inspired by" The New Mediterranean Table. Reservations are $125 and limited to 30. Call 612-874-6440 to reserve a spot.
Both Wadi and the LBV crew will be manning the stoves, and Wadi will be available for cookbook autographing and general revelry.
