Taste of the Twin Cities Originals to offer competitions and Norwegian sushi
Mark your calendars for the fifth annual Taste of the Twin Cities Originals food and wine event on July 22 from 6 to 9 p.m. at International Market Square. Chefs from the TCO group of independently owned restaurants will prepare food and drinks for guests and compete in an Iron Chef-style "Restaurant Olympics."
That means the bartenders from 5120 Restaurant and Onyx Bar, Azia Restaurant, Lake Elmo Inn, and Woolley's Steakhouse and chefs from Biella, Ike's Food & Cocktails, San Pedro Café, and Woolley's Steakhouse will have 30 minutes to create a drink or dish that highlights a secret ingredient revealed at the beginning of the competition. And what was that we said about Norwegian sushi?
Yep, the folks at the Town Talk Diner told us they're planning to serve Norwegian sushi, which is smoked salmon, remoulade, sliced avocado, and cucumber rolled in lefse and served with a yogurt dill sauce. If that doesn't please your palate, try the s'mores: smoked chocolate ganache slathered on graham crackers and marshmallows, both house made.
Other menu highlight include...
Azia's cranberry curry with chicken and jasmine rice, Biella's Italian gazpacho soup with basil crème fraiche, Ike's Food & Cocktails's Arkansas-style pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw and Luci Ancora's gazpacho salad with Tazmanian crab.
Tickets can be purchased for $45 online (tcoriginals.com) and at select TCO restaurants or for $50 at the door.
