Taste of Maplewood starts Friday
Nothing says summer quite like a food festival with colorful tents full of food and beer, live music, and lots of happy, hungry people. This is the height of summer festival season, with another big event this Friday and Saturday: the Taste of Maplewood.
We spoke with entertainment/vendor planner Pauline Staples to get the details:
Staples is amazed at the way the festival has grown. "One vendor remarked that we had gone from five to 12 to now about 100 food vendors over the past few years," she says. Thirty new food booths have been added this year alone. Highlights include both a beer garden and a root beer garden with $1 root beer floats, festival faves like pizza, BBQ, hot dogs, burgers, and hot wings, Just Truffles Inc. (the chocolate variety), Maui Wowi Hawaiian coffee and smoothies, Greek Taste, Famous Dave's, Old Chicago, Joe's Crab Shack, Acapulco Mexican Restaurant, Aesop's Table, Culvers...and the list goes on.
Staples added that the music lineup is also stellar this year, including Rubber Soul Beatles Tribute Band on Friday, and Martin Zeller and the Hardways, and GB Leighton and Saturday. There will also be hot-air balloon rides, an arts marketplace, and "Heal the Soul: A High Heel Shoe Race to Bring Attention to Domestic Violence," with both women and men racing in heels.
