Taste of Dorset--road trip to the Restaurant Capital of the World
Dorset, Minnesota: population, 22, number of restaurants, 4--equaling one restaurant for every 5.5 people. These statistics give Dorset the honor of being the per capita "Restaurant Capital of the World!" The citizens of Dorset do not take this honor lightly, which is why the first Sunday of each August they take it to the streets in the all out food extravaganza known as Taste of Dorset.
Get in the car and head toward the "Restaurant Capital of the World"
On Sunday you can take your show on the road and head north to Dorset, which neighbors Park Rapids, for a one-day food spectacular. The streets of Dorset will be full of samples from Dorset's dining establishments allowing you to try lots of little bites. All four of the town's restaurants will be participating:
There will also be live music, crafts, antiques, and family entertainment and games, including face painting, clowns, a dunking booth, and minnow races. Plus, there will be a pie social at the town's church. And for only $1 you can become mayor of Dorset! A drawing is held each year at Taste of Dorset to name a new town mayor, and anyone can win. Past winners include a 4-year-old Chicago boy and a deceased rooster.
