Taking the party outside, where it's easier to clean up if you do any literal spilling of the wine
After moving her business from Washington Avenue to the corner of Lake
and Bryant, Spill the Wine owner Katie Greeman has proven to be not only a petite force of
nature, but a savvy businesswoman who knows how to fill a neighborhood
niche. Spill the Wine is more than just an oenophile hangout, it's also a spot
where you can come across neighbors, catch up with old friends, or
settle in for a long, romantic date night.
This Sunday, Spill the Wine is taking that community vibe, plus wine and munchies, out to the street for the Sip 'n' Streets event.
Sip 'n' the Streets will be an opportunity to throw open the doors (and Spill the Wine's large windows) and share one big Uptown-y hug with plenty of wine, delicious nibbles, and much more. In addition to the grape-based sippers, there will be beer from Badger Hill Brewing and a full bar inside and out. (Not aware of the full bar? You ought to be because Spill the Wine bartenders are serving some serious drinks there. We could make a meal of the Prairie Organic Vodka-based bloody Mary alone.)
Cheese curds with a gooey factor that stretches for days
The event will be held from noon to 5 p.m., rain or shine, although the skies look like they'll stay sunny. Cost is $25, or $20 if you're one of the wine club members. The ticket includes unlimited tasting of regional wines, as well as meat, cheese, and chocolate samples. More food is available at an extra price, as are cigars from Golden Leaf Tobacco. There will also be live music, because you can't really call it a party without some tunes.
Food available will include barbecue pork sliders for $5, chicken street tacos for $4, and curried vegetable skewers for $3. Says Greeman, "We're very excited."
If you're interested in joining the wine club, a $25 buy-in will get you a complimentary glass of wine, from one of the new and interesting selections, every time you visit Spill the Wine. Call the restaurant directly for more information on that. Plus, if you find a wine that you fall in love with, bottles will be available for a discount from Lake Wine & Spirits. It's really a win, win, wine situation.
Tickets are available here and at Spill the Wine.
