We've seen Michelle Gayer work her magic on the fancy desserts at La Belle Vie, but there's lots to love about the homey sweets at the bakery she runs in the Midtown Global Market, the Salty Tart. These sugar buns, for starters, are little hollow dough spheres of a sweet, chewy dough that's coated with a sequin-like sparkle of sugar. The pat of pastry cream in the bottom is a sweet little surprise, like finding the nut in the Christmas pudding.
