A bar-release party is sort of like a CD-release party, only with beer. The beer being released is dubbed SurlyFest, Surly brewer Todd Haug's take on an Oktoberfest bier. Like most Surly beers, this new addition should be quite hoppy, but also features an extra dash of rye and German lager yeast. Tasty!
The celebration will be at Tracy's Saloon and Eatery (2207 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis; 612.332.1865) this Monday, September 21. Partiers can enjoy two-for-ones on any pint of Surly, including SurlyFest, Furious (their hoppiest brew), Cynic (a peppery yellow beer with a hint of peach), and Bender (an oatmeal brown ale) from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Hungry guests can enjoy $4 Furious-boiled brats with all the Oktoberfest fixings (sauerkraut, relish, etc.) and add a pint for a mere $2.
Monday will also feature a limited seating six-course tasting menu at 6:30 p.m. for $28. Each course will integrate Surly brews into the plate, including a Cynic dressing on salad, Bender BBQ glaze, a Furious cheddar soup, and even a mint julep shooter with a dose of Furious in it.
