Conny's Creamy Cone, the mini donut window at Chef Shack Ranch, East Lake Street's taco trucks, Dave's Popcorn. Small, independently owned, micro food businesses like these not only contribute to neighborhood vibrancy and proffer a distinctive vibe, they mean tradition, a quick, all-important sweet or salty reprieve from the day's grind, and meaningful, lifelong memories made for kids. And sometimes, we take them for granted.
The Star Tribune is reporting that the neighborhood around Dave's Popcorn is concerned to hear that Dave's Popcorn has gone up for sale. It's been a south Minneapolis tradition since 1957. It's a seasonal business, and the couple currently who own it (they bought it in 2003) are citing the difficulties of running such a business while holding down other jobs.
Do you have what it takes to run the place? The asking price is $95,000. Naturally, neighbors hope the new owners will maintain the vintage vibe and tradition.
