Sofitel Minneapolis celebrates National Cheese Day with free cheese
Broadening your knowledge of international cheeses can be a very enjoyable--but very expensive--project. And with over 670 recognized types of cheese, it's hard to know where to start without getting overwhelmed ... and over-cheesed. Finding small-scale, local events here and there can cut a lifetime of learning down to appropriate, bite-sized pieces.
The Sofitel Hotel in Edina will be hosting one such event next week, in honor of National Cheese Day, where you can get a modest education in great cheeses without spending a dime.
On Wednesday, the Sofitel will offer complimentary samples of international cheeses between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and from 5 to 9 p.m. at its restaurant, Colette Bar & Bistro. A cheese expert (a.k.a. maitre fromager) will also be there to answer all your questions about the various cheeses and suggest wine pairings.
Should that sample tempt you to linger, Colette Bar & Bistro will also be offering two special cheese plate options in a "battle" of French vs. domestic cheese and their respective wines. All in all, not a bad date night if you don't mind the inherent ... cheesiness.
