The best of highbrow and lowbrow cuisine

As a countdown to the Best of the Twin Cities 2013, coming April 17, the Hot Dish is serving up 50 of our favorite local dishes.
It was hard to imagine, when the Smack Shack food truck first rolled into town that the Twin Cities had a gaping maw of lobster need waiting to be filled. Before you could say "crustacean," long lines formed outside the truck, snaking along the downtown Minneapolis streets. Those lines didn't diminish when they took over the kitchen at the 1029 Bar and began throwing festive lobster boil parties. Thankfully, now that they've moved into their expansive new restaurant space on Washington Avenue in North Loop, it's possible to belly up and tuck right in to one of their tasty new dishes, the lobster guacamole.
The lobster is succulent and fresh. When perfectly cooked, it is a wonderful hunk of seafood simplicity. Set atop a fresh, ultra-creamy green guacamole and then scooped up with a crispy tortilla chip, it's a wonderful marriage of textures. The guacamole is full of fresh chilies, tart lime, and bright cilantro. It's the sort of dip where the first bite begs another, and another, allowing your mouth and taste buds to explore each spicy, crunchy, rich, and lovely bite.
