If the thought of hitting a mall between now and Christmas makes you think wistfully of your recent root canal, never fear. We’ve got something better than Novocain, even better, dare we say, than nitrous. This shopping season, many local taprooms and cocktail rooms are hosting winter markets spotlighting local artisans where you can enjoy a relaxing round of shopping for unique handmade gifts while sipping a calming adult beverage.
Dec. 5, noon to 5 p.m., stroll the eighth annual Crafts & Cocktails Holiday Market taking place this year at Tattersall Distilling. As if you needed an excuse to check out this quirky cocktail room that serves some of the best drinks around, this Saturday you can also peruse the wares of more than a dozen vendors.
Dec. 5, noon to 5 p.m., head over to Grain Belt Brewhouse for the American Craft Council’s Holiday Craft Hop. This curated shop features more than 50 artisans, including small batch food gifts. Luckily, Grain Belt isn’t far from Tattersall, so if you plan wisely, you can have a beer and a cocktail and surely cross lots of folks off your gift list.
Dec. 6, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., explore the Minneapolis Craft Market at Sociable Cider Werks. “Meet Your Maker” is the market’s slogan, and helping you find the perfect gift is their mission. Browse goods including clothing, ceramics, fiber arts, jewelry, and woodworking, and sample some seasonal cider and make an afternoon of it.
Dec. 9, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., get in a little midweek shopping and sipping at the Holiday Beertique at Lift Bridge Brewing Company.
Dec. 10, 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., grab your gal pals and head to the Chic Brewtique at Steel Toe Brewing. Fun and fashion are the key here, and don’t forget to try a Size 7 while you’re shopping.
Dec. 12, noon to 5 p.m., head back to Tattersall, this time for Explore the North, featuring goods ranging from organic beauty products to outdoor gear and performance bikes and everything in between.
Dec. 13, noon to 5 p.m., check out the mix of art, jewelry, gifts, and home décor at the Winter Market at Sisyphus Brewing. The brewery is also sponsoring a Mitten Tree with donations going to People Serving People. If you donate a new warm weather item (hats, mittens, scarves), your first beer is on the house. Can’t beat that deal.
What's that you say? That’s not enough booze-related holiday cheer? Well, there’s more non-shopping fun in store courtesy of local taprooms:
Now through Dec. 20, you can explore the new incarnation of Holidazzle in Loring Park and enjoy beer from Fulton, an official sponsor of the event.
Dec. 12, adults can enjoy a beer, kids can sip root beer, and everyone gets to visit with Santa at Waconia Brewing Company.
Dec. 13, head over to Boom Island Brewing Company, where you can build a gingerbread house.
Dec. 18, Fair State Brewing Cooperative hosts its second annual Festivus celebration. For the price of an item donated to a foodshelf, you get to take a turn at the mic and vent about things that drove you crazy this year.
