September Morn, a vintage cocktail recipe

September Morn, good any time of the day.

On this dreary September morn, we wanted to share a recipe from The Savoy Cocktail Book--which concentrates on recipes from the 1920s and '30s--to put a little color in your day. The cocktail culture of this era was all about decadence and fun, and this drink has both qualities. The citrus makes a fine counterpoint to the vanilla and almond of the rum, with the sweetness of the grenadine and the velvet of the egg white blending seamlessly in this lively sip. 

September Morn Cocktail

Juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
1 Tbsp. grenadine
White of 1/2 egg
2 1/2 oz. Bacardi rum

Shake all ingredients with ice until frothy (1-2 minutes), strain into a chilled glass.
