Schell's Snowstorm, No Shave Month, and Surly Eight Highlight the Weekend's Beer Festivities

Jazz clubs, local hip-hop, mustaches, and the airport: This weekend, all of those elements can be combined with a local brew in some fashion, whether you're leaving town via MSP or just want an excuse to grow some (charitable) facial hair.

On Friday, Summit will continue to promote its new Harvest Fest Hop beer, #17 in the Unchained Series, with brewer Tom Mondor pouring samples at MSP airport for arrivals/departures between 1 and 3 p.m. Welcome back to Minnesota, indeed!

From 5 to 7 p.m., Brooklyn Brewing is hosting a tasting at 1st Grand Ave Liquors in St. Paul, featuring the Brooklyn Lager, Brown Ale, and East India Pale Ale.

Also on Friday, Boom Island marks the season with its Yule Beer, a Belgian-style holiday beer with a whopping 13.0% ABV, brewed with black currant. It will be tapped at 6 p.m.

Saturday, from 2 to 7:30 p.m., is the 10th annual Amazing Pub Crawl, a trivia-themed pub crawl sponsored by Thrifty Hipster and Summit.

For those who still have room for more beer on Sunday, Surly will unveil Eight at Dakota Jazz Club from 5 to 10 p.m. The beer celebrates the brewery's eighth anniversary and is an oat wine ale aged in rye whiskey barrels. A special menu item will be on hand and the Dakota will also have Todd the Axe Man IPA, Devil's Work, Cynic, Hell, and Furious on draft. Doomtree's Paper Tiger will DJ the event. Attendance is free, but space is limited.

Schell's annual winter beer, Snowstorm, is now available. This year's variation is a Grand Cru style beer. The brewery also released its Fresh Hop Equinox, a fresh hopped German pilsener style beer.

And let's not forget No Shave November. Brewpub institution Town Hall is helping to raise funds by offering a $2 pint card to anyone who donates $10 or more to the Prostate Cancer Foundation at their restaurants -- provided the donors do not shave before cashing in their card. A beard competition will be held at month's end.

Looking for something to eat while visiting the taproom? Hibachi Daruma (Friday), Tru Pizza (Saturday), and Vin's Italian (Sunday) will be at 612Brew. Midnord Empanadas (Friday) and Motley Crew's (Saturday) will serve at Bauhaus Brew Labs, and Rusty Taco will be at Burning Bros on Friday night.
